Straight answers to the questions homeowners ask us most. If yours isn't here, call us or send a message through the contact page.
What is the life expectancy of my HVAC system?
Most central air conditioners and furnaces last somewhere between 15 and 20 years, though that range depends heavily on how the system was installed and how well it's been maintained. Regular tune-ups, clean filters, and healthy ductwork all push a system toward the long end of its life. If your equipment is past the 15-year mark and repairs are getting more frequent, it's worth talking about replacement before the next failure makes the decision for you.
Do you provide free estimates on repairs?
Free on-site estimates are for installations and replacements — new AC systems, furnaces, ductwork, mini-splits, and insulation projects. Repairs work differently: a system that isn't working has to be diagnosed first, so a repair visit starts with a diagnostic rather than a free quote. Once we know what's wrong, you get a clear picture of the fix before any work begins.
What's the difference between a free estimate and a diagnostic?
An estimate is a quote for new equipment or a planned project — we visit, measure, look at your home, and price out the options, at no charge and no obligation. A diagnostic is troubleshooting: a technician tests a system that's misbehaving, finds the actual cause, and lays out the repair. One prices future work; the other investigates a present problem.
How much is your diagnostic fee and what does it cover?
We quote the current diagnostic fee up front when you book, so there's never a surprise at the door. The fee covers the technician's trip to your home and the full troubleshooting process — testing electrical components, checking refrigerant pressures, inspecting the equipment, and pinpointing the root cause — followed by a clear explanation of the repair you're facing.
Can my diagnostic fee be applied toward the cost of my repair?
Ask about this when you schedule — we'll explain exactly how the diagnostic fee is handled if you approve the repair, before the technician ever heads your way. The goal is that you know the full arithmetic of the visit ahead of time, not after.
How long are your appointment time frames, and can you give me a more accurate window?
We schedule service in arrival windows rather than exact times, because the length of the job before yours is never fully predictable. What we can do is keep you posted: we'll let you know when your technician is wrapping up the previous job and headed your way, so you're not stuck watching the door all afternoon.
What services do you provide?
Seven core services: air conditioning repair, installation, and maintenance; heating and furnace work; ductwork installation and high-efficiency duct replacement; ductless mini-split systems; air-duct cleaning; indoor air quality solutions; and attic insulation. We also run 24/7 emergency service for the breakdowns that don't wait for business hours.
What's included in your maintenance package?
A maintenance visit is a full checkup for your system: cleaning or replacing filters, checking refrigerant charge, cleaning coils, testing electrical components and safety controls, inspecting duct connections, and catching small problems while they're still small. Plan details vary, so call us and we'll walk you through the current options and what each covers.
What areas do you serve?
We serve the San Fernando Valley from our shop in Van Nuys: Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Reseda, North Hollywood, Studio City, Valley Glen, Northridge, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, Panorama City, and Canoga Park.
Do you offer emergency service?
Yes — 24/7. Heating and cooling failures have a talent for happening at night, on weekends, and in the middle of a heat wave. When your system quits, call us and we'll get a technician moving, whatever the hour.
How does a free estimate work?
You call or send the contact form, we set a time, and a technician comes out to look at your home in person — measuring, checking the existing equipment and ductwork, and talking through what you actually need. You get a written quote with options, and there's no obligation to move forward.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Greenland AC holds CSLB C-20 license #1122606 and is licensed, bonded, and insured. Every job we do is backed by that license and by our warranty on all work.
