San Fernando Valley Heating & Air Conditioning
The best air conditioner in the world can't overcome leaky, undersized ducts. We design, install, and replace duct systems that actually deliver the air your equipment produces.
Ductwork is the half of an HVAC system nobody sees, and in most Valley homes it is the half that's failing. We install new duct systems, replace deteriorated ones, and upgrade traditional runs to high-efficiency designs. The physics is simple: air moving through properly sized, well-sealed ducts spends less time in transit, and less time in the duct means less heat energy lost along the way. Old oversized box ductwork lets conditioned air crawl through hot attic space, shedding cooling the entire trip; a tighter, high-efficiency layout gets that air to the room while it's still cold.
Valley attics are brutal on ducts. On a 100-degree afternoon, the attic over a Van Nuys or Reseda ranch house can run far hotter than the outdoor air, and that is exactly where most ductwork lives. Decades of that heat make older flex duct brittle, dry out sealant at the joints, and crush insulation flat. Homes built or last re-ducted in the 1970s and 1980s commonly leak a large share of their conditioned air into the attic before it ever reaches a register. The symptoms are familiar: the back bedrooms never cool down, the system runs constantly, and summer bills climb every year even though the AC unit itself tests fine.
Every duct job starts with a free on-site estimate and an honest inspection. We get into the attic or crawlspace, check for disconnected runs, crushed sections, and leaky joints, and measure whether the duct sizes match the equipment's airflow needs. Sometimes the right answer is targeted sealing and a few replaced runs; sometimes the system is far enough gone that full replacement is the cleaner, cheaper-over-time path. Either way you get a clear scope before work begins. Installation is done under our CSLB C-20 license, connections are mechanically fastened and sealed — not just taped — and the finished system carries our warranty.
Duct replacement is also the single most overlooked efficiency upgrade in the Valley. Homeowners replace a struggling air conditioner and keep the leaky ducts, then wonder why the new unit barely improves things. Fixing the delivery system lets existing equipment perform the way it was rated, and when you eventually do replace the AC or furnace, right-sized ducts often allow smaller, cheaper-to-run equipment. If you're planning a system replacement, have the ducts evaluated first — we bundle both into one estimate so you can see the whole picture.
Traditional systems push air slowly through large rectangular trunks, giving it maximum time to absorb attic heat through the duct walls. High-efficiency designs use smaller, properly insulated ducts that move air quicker — less surface area, less transit time, less energy lost between the equipment and the room. The result is colder air at the register, more even room-to-room temperatures, and equipment that doesn't have to run as long to hit the setpoint.
Duct design and replacement is core work for us, not an add-on — we've been fixing Valley airflow problems since 2006.
